Painting in Cornwall
Cornwall offers a wealth of stunning landscapes and picturesque locations that are ideal for plein air painting. Here are some of my top picks if you’re hoping to paint outdoors……..
St. Ives: This charming seaside town is renowned for its artistic heritage and beautiful coastal scenery. The harbor, beaches, and winding streets of St. Ives provide endless inspiration!
Land's End: The westernmost point of mainland Cornwall, Land's End offers dramatic cliffs, rugged coastline, and panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The unique rock formations and crashing waves are gorgeous to capture on canvas!
The Lizard Peninsula: Known for its wild beauty, the Lizard Peninsula boasts stunning cliffs, hidden coves, and heathland. Kynance Cove, Mullion Cove, and Cadgwith Cove are popular spots for plein air painting in this area.
St. Michael's Mount: Located near Marazion, St. Michael's Mount is a tidal island crowned by a medieval castle. It offers a captivating mix of architectural beauty, gardens, and coastal views, making it an ideal location for plein air painting.
The Helford River: (One of my favourites) The tranquil Helford River is lined with picturesque creeks, ancient woodlands, and peaceful waters, including Frenchman's Creek.
Bodmin Moor: For those seeking a more rugged and atmospheric landscape, Bodmin Moor provides a dramatic setting with granite tors, open moorland, and historic ruins. The raw and untamed nature of this area can offer unique painting opportunities.
Porthcurno and Minack Theatre: Porthcurno is known for its white sandy beach and crystal-clear waters, while the nearby Minack Theatre is a unique open-air theater built into the cliffs. Both locations provide breathtaking views and artistic inspiration.
