Georgie Harrison
Georgie Harrison, also known as Gee by the Sea, is a contemporary marine and landscape artist based along the rugged coastline of Cornwall. Her work captures the raw, immersive experience of the natural world, rejecting static, traditional viewpoints in favour of an organic, shifting field of vision, frequently painting from the immersive perspective of a swimmer fully embedded within the sea.
Central to Georgie’s creative practice is a sophisticated use of the broken colour technique. Rather than relying solely on smooth blending, she layers distinct, unblended strokes of varied tones side-by-side on the canvas. This deliberate approach allows for optical colour mixing, creating a luminous surface vibration that beautifully mirrors the shifting light, translucent depth, and kinetic energy of moving water.
She regularly exhibits alongside the prestigious Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) at London's Mall Galleries, where she was awarded the Winsor & Newton Award for a Notable Oil Painting in 2025. Most recently, she was selected as a finalist for the British Art Prize 2026.
‘Being in, on, or near the sea brings me a deep sense of calm. Even a quick swim can centre me and reset my mind for the day. Through my painting, I want to capture and communicate that feeling of renewal, creating work that allows the viewer to experience a similar sense of calm and leave feeling, in some way, reset’
